    Since 2007, the Ohio Workforce Coalition brings together leaders from education and training institutions, economic and workforce development organizations, business and industry, labor, and human service providers. The Coalition promotes public policies that build the skills of adult workers, meet employer skill needs, and strengthen the workforce system to ensure opportunity and prosperity for Ohio families.

Key WF related legislation

The Ohio General Assembly has a number of workforce related bills at various stages in the legislative process. You can visit their website and search by the bill number if you’d like more information on the ones I am listing today. Please comment if you have questions or if you know of other relevant legislation.

  1. SB 172/HB 305 address reinstating the GED Fee Waivers that were eliminated in HB 1;
  2. SB 198 provides a tax credit for individuals pursing training in STEM areas;
  3. HB 360 provides a tax credit for individuals obtaining journeyperson status;
  4. HB 144 provides a tax credit for individuals pursing bachelors degrees in specific areas;
  5. HB 283 addresses training needs of high demand industries such as bioscience;
  6. HB 346 requires a state WIA report;
  7. HB 381 creates a state workforce intermediary committee; and
  8. SB 193 provides a business tax credit for hiring unemployed individuals.
