Unemployment Falls Slightly In May To 10.7%; 17,100 Jobs Added
The state unemployment rate declined slightly in May to 10.7% as 17,100 jobs were added, the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services announced Friday.
The rate was down from the 10.9% rate in April, the agency said.
“Ohio’s job market continued to show improvement during May as the unemployment rate fell to 10.7 percent,” DJFS Director Douglas Lumpkin said. “Manufacturing jobs increased and the hiring of temporary census workers boosted the number of service-providing jobs.”
The state said the total number of unemployed Ohioans last month was 641,000, down from 652,000 the previous month.
