From the Center on Law and Social Policy
We are continuing to work with Congressional staff to find a vehicle for the TANF Emergency Fund extension. Possibilities include the small business tax bill and yet another version of a broad jobs bill. But staff are saying that they’re not hearing from their districts/states about the urgency of extending this program. I know that it’s been a long haul and many of you have reached out to your members repeatedly. But if you’re in a position to make another call or write another email, please do so. If you’re involved with a subsidized jobs program, maybe send in pictures and stories about individuals who are benefiting from the program to make it tangible. It would also be useful to help members understand how disruptive it would be to have to wait until late September for an extension (which is the likely scenario if they wait until the overall TANF extension.)
Thanks for all that you do.
