  • Overview

Since 2007, the Ohio Workforce Coalition has been bringing together leaders from education and training institutions, economic and workforce development organizations, business and industry, labor, and human service providers. The Coalition promotes public policies that build the skills of adult workers, meet employer skill needs, and strengthen the workforce system to ensure opportunity and prosperity for Ohio families.

From the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities:

The Senate is planning to take up a bill on Monday to extend FMAP and to provide funding to states to save teachers’ jobs. This bill DOES NOT include the TANF ECF and there is no way to add it.

The Senate is still negotiating on the small business and extenders which may go together or separately. This is probably the LAST vehicle left on which to get the TANF ECF. It is imperative that you contact your senators and tell them the importance of including the TANF ECF on this bill. States have weighed in heavily on the FMAP and teachers but have not focused on the TANF ECF. We have been doing Hill visits with Senate staff and none have indicated they have had any recent calls about the TANF ECF.

The Senate goes out for August recess after next week and does not come back until September 13th when they will have a full calendar of must-pass bills.

Time is running out and options for moving the TANF ECF get fewer every day.

(1) EVERYONE should call their Senators and ask them to go to leadership on this to make sure it gets included on a bill that will pass next week. (2) Call your state TANF Director and get them to weigh in
(3) Call your governor’s office and get them to weigh in
(4) Call your state legislators and get them to weigh in
(5) Find businesses and participants in subsidized employment programs and ask them to call and tell their Senator how devastating the end of this program will be for them
