AEP Ohio Announcement and HHW

From Terri Burgess Sandu, Executive Director of Hard Hatted Women.

Dear HHW Friends and Supporters,

Hard Hatted Women is very proud to share with you this announcement from AEP Ohio regarding investments they are making in Ohio’s workforce. Hard Hatted Women’s Ohio Women in Sustainable Employment (OH-WISE) initiative is one of three that have received an investment from the company through their “Partnership with Ohio” plan. More information is included in the attached press release from AEP Ohio, as well as a brief description of what funds to HHW will support. A link to one example of recent coverage of the announcement is also provided: http://www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com/article/20100804/NEWS01/8040306/1002/AEP-putting-up-money-to-keep-jobs-here

Hard Hatted Women’s OH-WISE program is designed to proactively move Ohio towards becoming the first state in the nation that makes green jobs traditional for both men and women – which in many occupations means increasing women’s participation from less than 5% to over 25% of the workforce. Achieving this vision benefits employers as well as families and communities, as we tap the talents of our entire workforce and create powerful strategies to prevent or reverse generational poverty. Using targeted outreach, leadership development and civic engagement, OH-WISE depends on vibrant partnerships with employers, educational institutions, community-based organizations, and industry coalitions.

Similar initiatives will be getting underway in Greater Cleveland, the Mahoning Valley and in the Greater Cincinnati region as we build new and strengthen existing partnerships with industry and community leaders in those regions. Our thanks to all of you who are investing in and providing strategic input to those efforts.

We welcome hearing from you.

Warm regards,

Terri Burgess Sandu
