You’re Invited Supporting Entrepreneurship and Self Employment Through the Public Workforce System Register Now Entrepreneurship is an important alternative to traditional reemployment for America’s unemployed. During Global Entrepreneurship Week, November 15 – 19, 2010, ETA is pleased to issue its latest guidance on the role of the workforce system in supporting entrepreneurship. Come learn more about how WIA funds can be used to support entrepreneurship training and broader entrepreneurship efforts.
Small businesses represent 99.7 percent of the nation’s employer businesses; employ just over half of all private sector employees; pay 44 percent of total U.S. private payroll; and have generated 64 percent of net new jobs over the past 15 years. Supporting the development of new small businesses through entrepreneurship is an increasingly important strategy in accelerating the pace of economic recovery in the United States. The workforce investment system promotes entrepreneurship and small business development primarily by providing self-employment assistance to workforce system customers. As the workforce investment system supports the nation’s economic recovery, providing entrepreneurship and self-employment training and assistance in a more systemic and strategic fashion is another way the system can leverage its resources to support unemployed and underemployed workers. To support that effort, ETA issued Training and Employment Guidance Letter 12-10 on supporting entrepreneurial and self-employment training through the workforce investment system. In celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, come learn more about how WIA funds can be used to support entrepreneurship training and broader entrepreneurship efforts. |
